Mauritius Urdu Drama
In Mauritius, training in performing Arts continues to be given locally by Arts Officers, from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Human Resources, who prepare the different categories of participants, viz. at the primary school, the secondary school and the National levels. The Drama Festival is organised yearly in the following languages: – English, French, Creole, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, Mandarin and including the Urdu language.
Although, history is witness that ‘Imtehaan-e-Muhabbat‘, written, directed and staged by Late Ayoub Peerally, is the first Long Play in Urdu to be staged; yet the first official Long play in Urdu remains ‘Rishta‘, which was played only once, in the context of the Second World Urdu Conference, in 2003. It was written by Farouq Rujul and Directed by Rashid Neerooa.
The Adjudicating panel for the National Drama Festival consists of three members and the list of Awards for those plays are as follows:-

(d) Best Actor
(e) Best Actress
(f) Second Best Actor
(g) Second Best Actress
(h) Best Director
(i) Second Best Director
(j) Special Prize for the most promising Young Actor
(k) Special Prize for the most promising Young Actress
(l) Special Prize for Actor under 15 years
(m) Special Prize for Actress under 15 years
(n) Special Prize for Best Beginner Group
(o) Best Set Designer
(p) Best Costume &
(q) Special Jury Awards
